Rolling Substitutions – Illusions Netball Club
Rolling Substitutions are allowed in junior netball to help encourage participation, reduce fatigue, and ensure all players have a fair chance to develop.
Coaches can make substitutions at any break or during gameplay with minimal disruption, as long as it doesn't interfere with the flow of the game.
Woolworths NetSetGO
Woolworths NetSetGO is Netball Australia’s official starter program, designed to give children aged 5 to 10 a fun, inclusive, and safe introduction to netball. The program is structured into three progressive tiers based on age and skill development: Net, Set, and Go.
Net (Ages 5–6)
The Net tier focuses on developing fundamental motor skills through fun, active games and simple exercises. These sessions are all about movement, enjoyment, and building confidence — without the pressure of competition. Children at this stage begin to understand how their bodies move while playing in a supportive and social environment.

Set (Ages 7–8)
The Set tier introduces more structured activities and basic netball skills. Players begin to explore simple strategies, positional awareness, and teamwork. The emphasis remains on skill development through play, with plenty of encouragement and opportunities to try different roles on court.

Go (Ages 9–10)
The Go tier guides players into more netball-specific training and modified match play. Players start to apply their skills in game scenarios, focusing on movement, passing, defending, and teamwork. This stage bridges the gap between learning and competing, preparing children for full junior netball.

NetSetGO Player Rotations
For players aged 5 to 10 years, player rotation is one of the most important elements of the NetSetGO program. It helps ensure every child experiences different court positions and has the opportunity to develop a broad skill set — not just physically, but also in terms of confidence, decision-making, and understanding of the game.

At Illusions Netball Club, we strongly encourage player rotation at each quarter. Coaches are asked to plan rotations so that across the course of a match (and ideally a season), every player:
-
Experiences both attacking and defensive positions
-
Gets a turn in the centre court
-
Is supported to play in positions they may not normally choose

This approach promotes inclusivity, fairness, and long-term player development — rather than early specialisation or competitiveness.
Why it Matters:
Skill Growth: Different positions develop different physical and decision-making skills.
Fairness: Every player gets a chance to participate fully — regardless of experience or ability.
Enjoyment: Children are more likely to stay involved when the game feels fair and fun.
Development: Early exposure to all roles creates more well-rounded netballers in the future.
What Coaches Can Do:
-
Use a rotation chart before each game to plan position changes across all four quarters.
-
Keep track over the season to ensure players aren’t regularly missing out on key roles.
-
Talk to players about what each position teaches them, and highlight the value of trying new things.
